Since graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in 2003, Jonny Shaw has received various awards and has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad.
Shaw’s work utilises a meticulous approach to drawing that explores the figure and its relationship with space and time. Through the layering of graphite pencil, hyperrealist compositions are formed that deal with illusion, perfection and perceptions of the body. Spatial dimensions, depth of field and surface tension are particular facets that form an ongoing inquiry into the border between physical and psychological domains.
For the exhibition at Veneer, Jonny Shaw showcased a selection of figurative and semi-abstract works.
His portrait Deryugina has been selected for display at The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Mall Galleries, near Trafalgar Square, London between 8th and 23rd May 2014. His work was also nominated for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2013 and was on display at the Jerwood Space, London from 11th September to 27th October 2013.
